Name: Violet Montague
Age: 12
Zodiac sign: Sagittarius
Class: None
Location: Goland
Alignment: None ; Neutral
Betrothed at a young age by their moderately-rich parents, Bardric and Alice were married in their late teens. While the two were not ecstatic about their nuptials, neither cared enough to despair over their fate. In the arrangement, Bardric had gained all of Alice's parent's estate, as she was their only child. And, should Bardric remain true and honorable to his family name, he would inherit his parents' estate as well, making him one of the wealthiest miners in Goland.
Much as Bardric and Alice viewed one another with apathy, they did manage to produce two children per their parents' requests. The older, a boy, was named Darien. The younger, a girl, was named Isabelle. The two children were raised mostly by a nanny, but having inherited their parents' stand-offish attitudes, did not want for affection. In fact, for a good thirteen years, the Montague household remained cold but peaceful. That is, until the third and last child was born into the household.
Violet Montague arrived on the night of a bitter blizzard (which, most Goland midwifes will tell you, is not a rare occurrence in the mining town). From the moment of her birth, Bardric knew something was wrong. Both the Montague line and Alice's family were notoriously dark-haired and dark-skinned from a lineage of Goland miners who ventured into the snow and blasting wind day after day. And yet, this baby girl that neither Bardric or Alice had planned upon was born with pale skin and hair that could be traced back to no relative on either side. The midwife ushered the baby from the room to clean her up when she'd noticed the look on Bardric's face. During that time, Bardric bullied his labor-wearied wife into a confession of adultery. Violet had not been fathered by Bardric, but instead by a family friend who Alice had been consorting with for a few months.
Bardric knew that his inheritance was done for at that point, but still he hoped in telling his parents that baby Violet was born with a sickness that caused her pale features, they would overlook the fact that she looked nothing like her father. They seemed to buy the excuse, and so Bardric returned to his work at the mines while his wife recovered and the nanny cared for Violet.
When Bardric's parents passed away, they left their money to Bardric's younger brother. Violet's family inherited little but furniture and a few boxes of trinkets. Violet was six at the time, and her father took his anger out on her. That night was the first time her father had hit her, but it certainly would not be the last.
In the past six years, Violet's father has developed a drinking problem and becomes rather violent when drunk. Now and then he has struck Alice, Darien, or Isabelle, but Violet is the main target of his aggressions. Even when he isn't hurting her, he is very controlling and verbally abusive of her. Violet is never allowed to leave the house, nor is she allowed to sit near windows where she can be seen by passers-by. She is mostly only allowed to remain in her room and play quietly. If she makes noise, she's often punished. If she does anything wrong, she tends to be punished, no matter how small the mistake is.
Alice remains distant and uncaring to her, and thus is no source of protection or comfort, if only because she would rather Bardric's anger not change direction. Darien and Isabelle left the house long ago. Thus Violet leads a quiet little existence in her room, doing her best to not anger or upset anyone in any way.
Violet's lifestyle has caused her to be a shy, timid girl. She knows little of the world beyond her room, and is thus very naive on top of her bashfulness. She tends to rarely act on her own for fear of retribution. Still, deep down she is a little girl, and therefor ever curious and imaginative. She's just very careful in how she goes about exploring or expressing herself.
Violet can do nothing in a fight but hide behind whatever is close by. She's twelve, what do you expect?
